Ahmed Hayyan Rasheed’s desire to bring improvements to the lives of vulnerable communities in need was the cause that motivated him to join Public Interest Law Centre (PILC). Hayyan completed Bachelor of Shari’ah & Law (Honours) from Maldives National University’s Faculty of Shari’ah & Law. During his time in law school, he was the president of Society of Shari’ah & Law, the wing of Maldives National University Student’s Union for law students. His first interaction with PILC was as president of SSL to collaborate together for the good of law students. He is currently an executive committee member of MNUSU, which is also an NGO that has done a lot of voluntary work for the public good.

Hayyan has been actively involved in various aspects of PILC work that include being part of the team that litigated in the first ever gerrymandering lawsuit in the Maldives, data privacy case, and various class action lawsuits, including the largest class action employment lawsuit submitted to the Employment Tribunal.

In addition to litigation, Hayyan also worked on law reform and lobbying of important bills such as the Industrial Relations bill and the Occupational Safety and Health bill. As a person who has one eye on the future, Hayyan has been advocating for the need of a Cyberlaw in the Maldives.

Additionally, Hayyan is also an Associate of Shunana & CO. LLP and has worked on high profile corporate and commercial cases against banks and consortiums.
